FAQ

GP Staff Academy course FAQs

Choosing a course, understanding the prices and finding your way into learning.

Which course should I choose?
Start with the Reception, Nursing or Practice Management learning pathways, or browse the full course range. Each course page explains its audience, activities and completion requirements.
How much does each course cost?
Three courses are free: Complaints, Aggression and Difficult Conversations; Infection Prevention, Clinical Waste and Reprocessing Readiness; and Everyday Infection Prevention for General Practice Staff. The other 15 focused courses are AU$10 each. The Comprehensive GP Receptionist Certificate is AU$20. Paid prices include GST, per learner and per course. You can also arrange 12-month access to the current 19-course library: AU$79 for one named learner, AU$299 for five, AU$499 for ten or AU$899 for twenty. There is no automatic renewal. Compare all course prices.
Why are your courses so affordable? Is there a catch?

There’s no catch. We value well-trained general practice teams and want practical, useful education to be affordable.

We know training already costs your practice time away from patient care and everyday work. We don’t want course fees to become another barrier to developing your staff.

Our pricing reflects that commitment: accessible learning that helps staff build confidence and apply what they learn in practice.

Check what is included and the access arrangements before choosing a course or library pack.

How do the free courses work?
You need your own learner account so progress can be recorded. Sign in or create your account, then open your chosen free course and enrol. The free courses do not require a paid course purchase.
Where do I find a course I have already enrolled in?
Use Student Login with the email linked to your enrolment. Your learning portal provides access to your enrolled courses. If access is missing, contact us with the course name; do not send your password.
Can I enrol a staff member or a team?
Yes. Every staff member needs their own account. Contact us before purchasing for someone else so access and learner details are set up correctly. Choose individual courses or a 12-month practice library pack. Each learner has separate progress and certificates. We confirm the learners, activation date and authorised report recipient before payment. Practice reports show assigned courses, completion status and completion dates. Library checkout is not yet available online.
How much time should I allow, and how long is access?
Learning time and access arrangements vary by course. Check the individual course information. For the receptionist certificate, allow about 250 minutes for a careful first completion; actual time varies. It includes 12 months of access from enrolment.
Does every course include a certificate?
Yes. Complete the required lessons and pass the course’s assessments to earn your named certificate of completion. Check each course for its requirements. The certificate records course completion. It does not establish clinical competence, guarantee practice accreditation or replace local induction and supervision.
Are the courses nationally recognised qualifications?
No. The courses are non-accredited professional development. GP Staff Academy is not a registered training organisation (RTO), and its completion certificates are not Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications. Do not treat them as accredited CPD-point awards.
How should I use Medicare-related learning?
The courses use official sources and practical examples. Medicare rules change, so check current MBS Online and Services Australia guidance before acting on a specific item, amount or claiming process. Apply the learning within your role and escalate uncertain decisions.
What does the receptionist certificate include?
A Welcome lesson plus 10 instructional modules (Module 0–9), 75 topics, 13 embedded knowledge checks and a 16-question final knowledge assessment. The learning covers patient communication, urgent-cue recognition and escalation, privacy, identity, billing and other front-desk workflows.
How do I earn the receptionist completion certificate?
Complete the required learning and answer all 16 final-assessment questions correctly (100%). Review the feedback and retry as needed. The named certificate supports training records; workplace competency still requires local supervision and assessment.
Is the receptionist course suitable for a brand-new staff member?
Yes. It provides a shared knowledge foundation before and during supervised local induction. It also supports refresher learning, alongside your employer’s procedures and competency assessment.
What is the refund policy?
