Description

Medicare and billing conversations are where accuracy, patient trust and practice risk meet. This self-paced course gives Australian general practice staff a practical method for handling those conversations clearly and safely.

What the course covers

• Medicare language, cards, entitlement and verification
• fees, out-of-pocket costs and informed financial consent
• bulk billing and assignment of benefit from 1 July 2026
• MyMedicare, BBPIP, DVA, WorkCover and other payers
• telehealth, referrals, claim corrections and time limits
• unpaid accounts, privacy, compliance and escalation

The course contains 16 short modules, practice activities and a 17-question final assessment. Allow approximately 85 minutes in total. It is designed for receptionists, practice managers, administrators and other non-clinical general practice staff.

Standards alignment

Reviewed against the final RACGP Standards for general practices, 6th edition, released 26 August 2026. It supports PP1.A, F4.B, F9.A–F9.B and CQI1.A. The course is not RACGP-endorsed and does not itself prove accreditation compliance. Practices remain responsible for local policies, induction, supervision and competency evidence.

Learners who satisfy the final completion rules receive a GP Staff Academy certificate of completion. This is non-accredited professional development and is not an AQF qualification or a claim for CPD points.
